Soup of
Success Awarded First MMA Praxis Matching Charity Sponsorship Grant
Goshen, Ind. – MMA Praxis Mutual
Funds recently announced that the Elkhart, Ind.-based Soup of Success Job and
Life Skills Training Program has been awarded its first MMA Praxis Matching
Charity Sponsorship Grant.
Soup of Success is a
multifaceted five-month training program that provides women in difficult life
situations with support groups, educational modules, career counseling,
mentoring, and hands-on job skills training in a small gourmet food business.
Women participating in the program produce and sell four product lines –
gourmet soup mixes, dips and dressings, and cookies, plus “Scent of Success”
candles.
Soup of Success was
conceived nearly a decade ago by a group of people from Southside Fellowship
in Elkhart, and brought to fruition by church members, Church Community
Services, and others from the community.
“The idea was to build a
community development program that empowered impoverished women to learn job
skills and find opportunities,” said Tim Braun, a member of Southside
Fellowship and an MMA counselor. Based on the level of his MMA Praxis sales,
MMA Praxis matched Braun’s $750 donation to the program with this first
charity sponsorship grant.
“I think Soup of Success is
the most impressive socially entrepreneurial organization in the country,”
said Braun.
The MMA Praxis grant,
available to qualified charities supported by MMA counselors, was developed to
promote and recognize the practice of holistic stewardship among the
counselors. According to Jerry Gray, MMA Praxis broker relationship manager,
“Since most counselors are already personally supporting programs they feel
strongly about, the matching grant was a great opportunity to support them in
their efforts while assisting charities that are making a positive
contribution to local communities.
“In its dedication to
providing a valuable community service, Soup of Success is clearly a great
program,” said Gray, “and MMA Praxis is happy to support it.”
Tim Braun is a Certified

He has been an MMA counselor since 1997. He manages the MMA Goshen field
